Trailer of the film ‘Nakchhong’ released; Rai community's tradition brought to life

Kathmandu. The trailer of the film ‘Nakchhong’ has been released, based on the story of a Nakchhong—a traditional clan Bijuwa of the Rai community—who performs rituals to guide a ‘soul’ according to a father's wishes after his death. The trailer captures the deep internal and social struggle a son must undergo with his family, society, and time for the sake of the Bijuwa tradition.

The film is written and directed by Kiran Rai, while Jyotiraj Rai is the producer. Producer Rai stated that the film will revive the deep cultural consciousness, spiritual discipline, and clan traditions of the Rai community, which have been practiced for generations since ancient times, through cinematic language.

"Nakchhong is not a fictional character but a living representative of beliefs, methods, rituals, and collective consciousness spanning generations, which the film has presented with deep sensitivity," Rai said. "Because even our own community has started to forget this, there is a danger of this history fading into the shadows."

The film stars Bhuwan Singh Rai, Yaseli Yonghang, Sagar Kerung, Sushma Subba Gurung, Purna Limbu, Sara Rai, Taya Hang Rai, Dinesh Koirala, Uday Subba Kurungwang, Anusha Rai, Saroj Rai, Jeshan Rai, Tulasha Limbu, and other actors. The film features cinematography by Babu Shrestha and music by Dinesh Kaji Bantawa and Anil Koi Rai.

While the public release date has not yet been fixed, the film has already been premiered in various cities across the UK.
