MP Ain Mahar Draws Government's Attention to Bajhang's Electricity and Communication Issues

Kathmandu. CPN-UML Member of Parliament Ain Mahar has drawn the government's attention, stating that despite sufficient hydropower generation in Bajhang district, the local people are forced to live in darkness. Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting held on Tuesday, MP Mahar informed the House about the dismal state of electricity and communication services in Bajhang.

He said, "Before the election held on march 5 (Falgun 21), Right Honorable Prime Minister Balen Shah visited my home district Bajhang as a tourism ambassador with the aim of promoting tourism, and he stayed in Bijgada of Bungal Municipality in Bajhang. On the night he stayed, there was a storm. The electricity also went out. From the next day, the network, the phone network, also stopped working. Why I mentioned this here is because whenever there is a storm in Bajhang district, the phone network stops working and the electricity does not return for several days."

MP Mahar presented the fact that even though more than 70 megawatts of electricity is being produced in Bajhang and connected to the national transmission line, more than 40 percent of the people in the district are still away from access to electricity and are forced to live in darkness. "Sufficient electricity is being produced in Bajhang, but the local people have to live in darkness," he said.

He has strongly demanded the government to immediately construct a substation in Bajhang to solve the problem and to make communication services smooth. He has seriously drawn the government's attention to eliminate the problems of electricity and communication services and create an environment for the residents of Bajhang to live in light.
