Miss Tamang Pokhara Begins, 12 Young Women from Tamang Community Participate
Pokhara. Miss Tamang Pokhara–2026 has officially begun. Organized by Baidam Tamang Service Society on the occasion of Sonam Lhosar, the Miss Tamang Pokhara pageant has been held annually.
Jyak Tamang, president of the society, said that the program has been continuously organized with the aim of teaching daughters of the Tamang community about language, traditions, and culture, while also developing their personality, confidence, and leadership skills.
The training and orientation program under Miss Tamang Pokhara–2026 was inaugurated by Tamang linguist Ajitman Tamang. During the inauguration, he emphasized the important role of the youth in preserving the Tamang language, traditions, and cultural identity.
On the occasion, Jyak Tamang, president of Baidam Tamang Service Society, stated that Miss Tamang Pokhara is not only a beauty contest but also a campaign to develop cultural awareness and social responsibility.
He said, “Our goal is for the daughters of the Tamang community to understand their language, identity, and traditions as they move forward. Miss Tamang Pokhara is a platform to build the pride and future of the community.”
Program coordinator Roshila Blone Tamang mentioned that the competition aims to develop confidence, leadership, and social awareness among young women.
According to her, Miss Tamang Pokhara provides an opportunity for daughters of the Tamang community to recognize their originality and present themselves confidently in society.
Training coordinator and Radio Annapurna station manager Sanjay Malla shared that the training is not limited to competition preparation alone but also focuses on life skills, speaking ability, and cultural knowledge.
The program featured speeches by former president of Nepal Jaycees Raju Kasi, former central vice-president of Nepal Tamang Ghedung, Gandaki vice-president Ram Bahadur Blone Shibu, dance choreographer Ram Lama, choreographer Jita Lama, among others. The program was conducted by Sunita Lama.
A total of 12 young women from the Tamang community are participating in Miss Tamang Pokhara. They are: Roz Syangden Lama, Kavina Ghising Tamang, Soni Pakhrin Tamang, Maya Dumjan Tamang, Khusi Moktan Tamang, Supriya Gole Tamang, Salina Syangden Tamang, Sommaya Moktan Tamang, Angel Lama, Sumitra Tamang, Khusi Lama, and Prabha Tamang.
The winner of the competition will receive a crown, trophy, certificate, NPR 100,000 cash, and an attractive gift hamper.
The first runner-up will receive a crown, trophy, certificate, and NPR 50,000 cash, while the second runner-up will get a crown, trophy, certificate, and NPR 30,000 cash. Additionally, one contestant will receive a viewers’ choice cash prize of NPR 20,000.
According to the organizers, various stages of language, culture, personality development, and leadership training will be conducted under Miss Tamang Pokhara–2026, and the grand finale will be held on Saturday, Magh 3, on the occasion of Sonam Lhosar.
