Ministry of Water Supply the Best Among Development Ministries: Minister Yadav

Kathmandu, August 5 – Minister for Water Supply, Pradeep Yadav, has said that the Ministry of Water Supply has achieved remarkable progress in the areas of water supply, sanitation, and sewerage, making it the most successful among the development ministries.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the annual progress review workshop of the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management for the fiscal year 2081/82, Minister Yadav stated that despite facing several challenges, the ministry has produced exemplary results through satisfactory performance.

He said, “Despite last year’s natural disasters, limited resources, and technical complexities, the ministry and the department have succeeded in making significant nationwide progress in the water supply and sanitation sector. This is a matter of great pride for us.”

Despite natural disasters, limited budget and resources, and technical difficulties in the previous fiscal year, the ministry and its departments achieved positive results across the country in water supply and sanitation, Minister Yadav said.

He further stated, “The Ministry of Water Supply has now established itself as the best among development ministries, being a sensitive and service-oriented body directly linked to the basic needs of the people.”

Praising the role of the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management in this achievement, Minister Yadav highlighted that the progress made in the last fiscal year has made a significant contribution toward achieving the national goal of ‘Clean Nepal: Healthy Nepali.’

He said, “This is a crucial moment for all of us to review the achievements of the past year, clearly identify the challenges we faced, and chart a concrete course of action for the future. This review is not just a presentation of statistics but also an opportunity to outline our collective efforts, dedication, and innovative plans ahead.”

Addressing the same event, Minister Yadav announced that the ministry has converted 15 temporary project offices into permanent structures under the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management. He expressed confidence that this step will support sustainable operation and management of the projects.

He also highlighted the need to develop an immediate and concrete plan for a long-term solution to the drinking water problems in the Terai-Madhes region, which have been worsened due to climate change. “I direct the department to work on a concrete solution for the long-term resolution of the drinking water issues in the Terai-Madhes,” he said.

Director General of the Department, Engineer Ram Kumar Shrestha, presented detailed information about the activities carried out in the previous fiscal year in water supply, sanitation, and sewerage management. He expressed his commitment to move forward even more effectively in the coming days.

He stated, “Under the clear direction of the Minister and with the support of the ministry and department staff, we have achieved 90 percent progress across the country. We aim to make even more progress in the future.”

Ministry Secretary Engineer Pramiladevi Shakya Bajracharya and Joint Secretary Engineer Meena Shrestha expressed their satisfaction over the progress made by the department in fiscal year 2081/82.
