Minister Yadav Conducts Late-Night Inspection of Melamchi Water Supply System

Kathmandu – Minister for Drinking Water Pradeep Yadav conducted a surprise late-night inspection of the Melamchi Water Supply System with the aim of ensuring more effective implementation of the much-anticipated project for Kathmandu Valley residents.
Minister Yadav visited areas including the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, Naxal, Tudaldevi, Bishalnagar, Bangshidhar Marg, and Suwarna Shamsher Road to inspect sites where pipelines have been laid under the Melamchi water supply system. He personally observed the progress and directed officials to complete pipeline pressure testing promptly to begin water distribution.
According to Minister Yadav, the primary pipeline (315mm and 280mm HDPE) construction in the Baluwatar area has been successfully completed using Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) technology. He stated, “The pipeline installation in Baluwatar and surrounding areas under the Melamchi system has been completed successfully. I have instructed the concerned authorities to begin water distribution soon.”
Laxmi Upadhyaya, Director of the Project Implementation Directorate (PID), informed that pressure testing is currently underway. Once completed successfully, water distribution will begin in DMA H2, I3, I4, and I5 zones, covering Baluwatar, Naxal (east of Bhatbhateni), Tudaldevi, Bishalnagar, western Bangshidhar Marg, and Suwarna Shamsher Road.
Upadhyaya mentioned that around 3,500 households in these areas are expected to benefit directly from the water supply.
Amit Ranjit, Project Manager at PID, added that the pipeline installation was executed in line with the long-term goal of providing clean, safe, and regular drinking water to residents of the Kathmandu Valley.
