Development is Impossible Without Information, Technology, and Communication: Minister Thapa
Gandaki Province Minister for Social Development, Youth, and Sports, Bindu Kumar Thapa, has stated that development is no longer possible without information, technology, and communication. Speaking at the inauguration of the 12th General Convention of the Nepal Telecom Workers’ Union, he noted that the telecommunications sector has established itself as a strategic foundation for national development.
Welcoming delegates from across the country to Pokhara, the provincial capital and a major tourist hub, Minister Thapa remarked that a public institution like Nepal Telecom is not just a service provider but also carries the vital responsibility of protecting the state's digital sovereignty.
He shared his view that the Nepal Telecom Workers' Union, established in 2048 BS, is the first democratic trade union dedicated to the social, economic, and intellectual growth of employees, boosting morale, ensuring welfare, and promoting the sustainable development of the company.
The Minister emphasized that since its inception, the union has played a significant role in protecting labor rights while maintaining the institution's public character, stability, and service quality. He clarified that the long-term success of any public institution is directly linked to the dedication, security, and dignity of its workers and employees.
Stressing the necessity of advancing labor-friendly policies, institutional reform, good governance, transparency, and accountability, Minister Thapa affirmed that the Gandaki Provincial Government is committed to development based on social justice, labor-friendly governance, and the expansion of social security.
According to him, the provincial government has adopted a clear policy to advance the "Digital Gandaki" journey by prioritizing information technology, digital access, and human resource development in collaboration with the telecommunications sector.
He concluded by stating that the general convention is not just a formal process for selecting leadership, but an historic opportunity to define future policy directions and organizational action plans.
He expressed confidence that the decisions made here will play a crucial role in establishing Nepal Telecom as a more capable, accountable, and people-oriented institution.
