Matrika Yadav Accuses Election Commission of Dual Character

Janakpur: Matrika Prasad Yadav, a leader of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) and House of Representatives candidate from Dhanusha Constituency No. 1, has accused the Election Commission of attempting to display a dual character.

Candidates in the constituency have expressed outrage after the Election Commission issued a letter yesterday (Sunday) with instructions to halt the announcement of the counting results for Dhanusha Constituency No. 1.

Yadav, who contested from the NCP, held a protest yesterday in Dhanushadham. Late last night, he organized a press conference at the same location to oppose the commission's directive. He alleged that the commission changed its own decision three times, ultimately leaving the candidates in a state of confusion.

The Election Commission had initially disqualified Kishori Sah Kamal, the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate from the same constituency, citing his name on a blacklist. Later, it made a second decision to count his votes but keep a separate record. Yesterday, it issued yet another notice stating that since the case is sub judice, the election results should not be declared.

Despite the disqualification of RSP candidate Kamal, he had received more votes than all other candidates in the constituency. Following him, NCP candidate Matrika Yadav received 10,428 votes, while Nepali Congress candidate Ram Paltan Sah received 9,485 votes and CPN (UML) candidate Ram Chandra Mandal received 9,220 votes.

If RSP candidate Kamal's disqualification were upheld, NCP candidate Matrika Yadav's victory appeared certain. However, following the notice issued by the commission yesterday, the results for all candidates, including Matrika, remain in limbo.
