CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet alleges government's increasing 'detention attitude'
Kathmandu. CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet has alleged that the government is starting to show signs of unjustly detaining parties and leaders.
Issuing a statement via the social media platform Facebook, he claimed that the Prime Minister's recent meetings and activities have increased the threat to democratic values.
According to Basnet, reports are also being made public that Suman Gurung has warned of launching nationwide resistance and protests if CPN-UML senior leader K.P. Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak are not arrested. Basnet commented that such an atmosphere could push the country into unnecessary instability.
He wrote, "If the country is pushed towards such a volatile phase, the situation will not remain under anyone's control. If we die, we will die wrapped in the country's flag. If you die, you cannot be wrapped in a foreign flag."
Basnet warned that the country is run by the sentiments and trust of the people, not by the 'design and arrogance of an abstract power,' and those in power should not forget this.
