JSP Leader Purna Basnet Demands Declaration of Oli, Deuba, and Prachanda's Tenure as 'Loot-ocracy'
Kathmandu. Purna Basnet, the chief of the Publicity Department of the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal, has demanded that the ruling period of the three former Prime Ministers—KP Sharma Oli, Sher Bahadur Deuba, and Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda'—be officially declared a 'Loot-ocracy' (Luttantra).
Basnet argues that the significant actions during the decade-long rule of these three leaders, who held power consecutively from the promulgation of the Constitution in 2072 BS (2015 AD) until 2082 BS (2025 AD), were primarily characterized by inflation, poverty, unemployment, misgovernance, corruption, commission-based dealings, and the unchecked influence of middlemen. Consequently, he believes this 10-year period in Nepali politics should be collectively labeled as 'Loot-ocracy'.
Basnet stated, "The country's economy has long been trapped in a vicious cycle of trade deficit, foreign debt, underdevelopment, unemployment, dependency, and inequality. Widespread dissatisfaction has spread among the public towards the government, political parties, and the leadership itself.
The younger generation has been put in a situation where they cannot see their future in the country. It is appropriate to give this period a distinct political identity."
He further pointed out that numerous major corruption scandals—including Ncell, Widebody, Yeti, Omni, Budhigandaki, and the Gold Scam—are the direct outcomes of their time in power. Basnet stressed that all these corruption cases must be thoroughly investigated, and those found guilty should face the most stringent possible action.
