Leader Gachhadar's Special Role in Bringing Nepali Congress Convention Schedule

Kathmandu. The discussion on whether the Nepali Congress's 15th General Convention would be special or regular went on for about a month and a half, and finally, the regular General Convention schedule has been made public.

According to the timetable, the Ward Conventions will start on Poush 16, and the Congress General Convention will be held in Kathmandu on Poush 26, 27, and 28.

The Central Committee meeting held on Monday made this decision. A long series of meetings and discussions followed the commencement of the Central Committee meeting on Ashoj 28, where Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba handed over the responsibility of Acting President to Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka.

The issue became more complex after 2,488 people submitted their signatures. Congress leader Vijay Gachhadar, who is also a former Vice President, played a crucial role in settling the General Convention issue that was ongoing within the party.

"Gachhadar-ji took the initiative to resolve the crisis seen in the party, and accordingly, the General Convention schedule has also been released," said a Congress leader.

Leader Gachhadar is known within the Congress as a leader with long political experience. Even during the constitution-making process in 2072 BS, Congress leader Gachhadar played a significant role in bringing together the then-Party President and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, and UCPN-Maoist Chairman Prachanda to reach a 22-point agreement.

Consequently, Nepal got a new constitution on Ashoj 3, 2072 BS. This time, too, Leader Gachhadar had been trying for two months to get the former office bearers, the acting president, and the president to agree on a timetable to hold the party's general convention by the end of January (Poush Masanta).

Congress leader Ram Janan Chaudhary said that due to Leader Gachhadar's balanced and mature role, the schedule for the 15th General Convention, to be held in Kathmandu starting Poush 26, has been made public.

Leader Chaudhary further mentioned that he and 24 other central members of the establishment faction had also lobbied in favour of holding a regular General Convention by the end of January, and this number reached 30 in Monday's meeting.

In the Central Committee meeting held on Kartik 26, Leader Gachhadar had put forward the view that the party should go to the General Convention and the general election united and with consensus.

Stressing the need to bring a single schedule through consensus, Gachhadar has consistently emphasized reaching a decision that accommodates everyone.
