Lalibazar’ Becomes a Super Hit in the Domestic Market

The Nepali film ‘Lalibazar’ has grossed over 80 million rupees (8 crore) at the domestic box office. According to data up to Sunday midnight released by 'Cinema @ Box Office' under the Film Development Board, the movie has achieved a gross collection of 80,109,665 rupees. According to the Board, 276,944 viewers have watched the film so far.

With this, 'Lalibazar' has become the highest-grossing film by mid-Jestha of the year 2083. Compared to the films released so far this year, this movie is ahead by double. Following its super hit status in the domestic market, its demand has also increased in the diaspora. The production team informed that inquiries regarding the diaspora screening are pouring in through social media.

According to producer Max Dipesh Khatri, the decision regarding the diaspora screening will be finalized soon. "We feel further encouraged by the love we received in the domestic market. We are discussing the diaspora screening and will soon decide on the medium through which it will be done. Also, we do not have words to thank for the love received from the audience in Nepal," producer Khatri said.

He stated that his desire is to reach as many viewers as possible with the subject matter raised by this film. "Centered around the struggle of a woman from the Badi community for the upbringing and education of her children, the film depicts the impact made by the light of education. Education helps the community move forward and also helps raise a strong voice for one's rights. We want to deliver this exact message to the general audience," producer Khatri said.

Directed by Yam Thapa, 'Lalibazar' is doing exciting business even in its fourth week of screening. Despite facing legal disputes and various protests in the initial phase, the film has achieved positive results at the box office. The movie is currently getting around 192 shows across the country, which is considered remarkable for a fourth week.

The film stars Swastima Khadka, Rabindra Singh Baniya, Samaira Thapa, Mukunda Kumar Shrestha, Abhay Baral, Prem Pandey, Asha Paudel, Govinda Sunar, Abha Aryal, Tara Sharma, Ramesh Badi, Saraswati Adhikari, Janaki Kathayat, Nischal Panthi, Birbal Chaudhary, Kuntal, among others. Bishal Devkota and Prasansha Subedi are making their debut through this film.

Bishal is an artist working in theater, while Prasansha is popular as a Gen Z actress. Prepared based on the story and direction of director Yam Thapa, the screenplay and dialogues of the film 'Lalibazar' were jointly prepared by director Thapa and director Pradeep Bhattarai. Pradeep Bhattarai is the executive producer of the film, while Max Dipesh Khatri and Rabindra Singh Baniya are the producers.
