Krishna Sitaula's Strategy to Field Son as 'Gen Z' Candidate Sparks Internal Party Dispute
A dispute has erupted within the Nepali Congress party after its influential leader, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, planned to advance his son, Shyam Sitaula, as an electoral candidate, branding him as "Gen Z."
This issue surfaced alongside the candidate recommendation process in his home constituency, Jhapa-3, leading to increased political turmoil.
Leaders within the party claim that Sitaula strategically put his son forward under the pretext of not running himself in the direct election. Following his instructions, the recommendation list included the phrase: "Do not recommend my name; advance the new generation (Gen Z)."
Previously, the list of potential candidates included Shyam Sitaula, along with Nabin Bimali, Bhagirath Poddar, Sharmila Adhikari, Tikaram Dhakal, and Sitaram Khadka.
However, some party leaders have criticized the move, stating, "The transfer of power from father to son is not the Gen Z generation," in their condemnation.
