KP Sharma Oli Emphasizes Youth Discipline and Unity in Diversity as Key to Nepal’s Future
Kathmandu — Chairman of the CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli, has stated that one of the country’s major problems is related to whether young people understand what is right, practice proper conduct, and present themselves appropriately.
Addressing a program organized on Thursday to express gratitude to volunteers of the UML’s 11th National Convention, Chairman Oli noted that negative tendencies are increasing in society.
He expressed concern that even some well-known public figures are being found involved in substance abuse, and that attempts are being made to normalize such behavior.
He said, “One of the problems in the country today is that it has become a national issue whether youths understand the right things, follow proper conduct, and present themselves correctly. Our ranks have shown ideals, but so-called famous people are found intoxicated. Such people being found in substance abuse is being aggressively brought into public discussion.”
However, he stated that the youths who worked during the UML convention set an example of discipline, dignity, and responsibility. “We did not see any kind of substance abuse among our youths. This is the ideal demonstrated by our ranks,” Oli said.
He added that if those who have taken to substance abuse out of resentment because they disliked his remarks were to abandon such behavior, it would make him extremely happy. According to him, the positive conduct and discipline of youths are what will secure the country’s future.
Chairman Oli also mentioned that Nepal is a society based on plurality, and that pluralism and diversity are not only social realities but also geographical, natural, and biological realities. “We live in plurality. Pluralism and diversity are our geographical reality, natural reality, and also a biological and botanical reality,” he said.
According to him, this very diversity has given Nepal the basis to be recognized by the world as one of the most beautiful examples of an ecosystem.
He said this is not limited only to the social aspect, but also includes various types of ecosystems, good governance, proper management, and unity within diversity as Nepal’s defining characteristics.
Chairman Oli also warned that any attempt to disrupt this unity based on diversity would have a negative impact on the country.
