Former PM Khanal Criticizes Government for Ignoring Chitrakar’s Health
Kathmandu: Rabi Lakshmi Chitrakar, the wife of former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, is currently recovering at home after being injured during the "Gen Z" protests.
On September 9 (Bhadra 24), the Khanal family's residence in Dallu was set on fire during the protests. Chitrakar, who was seriously injured in the incident, has returned to Nepal after receiving medical treatment in India for three months. She is now resting at her home.
Speaking with Nepal News Bank, Chitrakar claimed that foreign powers used the "Gen Z" movement as a cover to attack her and the entire nation. She described the attack as "barbaric," regardless of whether the targets are involved in politics or not. She believes there is a conspiracy to destroy Nepal under the guise of this movement.
"The Gen Z movement is just an excuse. These young people didn't cause this; they were used. Real Gen Z youth are not this heartless. Others played a game using their name. This 'law of the jungle' should not be applied to anyone. It is a tragedy for the whole country. This was an attempt to make Nepal a failed state so foreign forces can do whatever they want."
Recalling the Incident Chitrakar shared her memories of the day, stating she was near the kitchen when stones suddenly started hitting the house from all sides.
"As we tried to hide, a thick cloud of hot smoke filled the room. My hand started hurting immediately, and I struggled to breathe. I tried to run toward a window but collapsed and lost consciousness before I could reach it," she said. She added that they had received no prior warning that their home might be targeted.
Frustration with the Government Former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal expressed deep disappointment with the current government. He complained that the authorities, led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki, have not even inquired about his wife's health, let alone offered help with medical expenses.
"Does the government even know she was injured? They visit other places, but they showed no concern for her. Does a former Prime Minister have to handle everything alone? Is there no responsibility from the state?" Khanal asked. He criticized the government for lacking basic humanity and common sense.
Call for Justice Khanal called those responsible for the attack "enemies of the country" and "criminals," demanding they be punished.
"They tried to take our lives. I have managed to save my wife, but they wanted her dead. The question of whether the government will punish these killers is a question for all three crore Nepalis," he stated.
Regarding her current health, Khanal shared that while she is recovering after three and a half months of treatment, she has lost the use of her hands. Her right hand is currently paralyzed, and she cannot grip anything.
She continues to suffer from daily fevers and remains at risk of infection. Khanal noted that the mental trauma of the incident is also severe.
