Purna Bahadur Khadka's view on not contesting elections on moral grounds
Leaders close to Purna Bahadur Khadka, the outgoing Acting President of the Nepali Congress, have stated that he is not in favor of approaching the Supreme Court against the Election Commission's decision.
Along with Khadka, leaders including Ramesh Lekhak and Shyam Kumar Ghimire were also of the opinion that they should not go to court. However, Khadka took a firm stand that legal action should not be pursued.
Khadka has shared his view within his group that since a lawsuit has been filed in court against the working committee formed through a special convention—contrary to his wishes—it would not be morally appropriate for him to contest this election.
The lawsuit was filed in court through a power of attorney in the names of Sher Bahadur Deuba and Purna Bahadur Khadka.
The leaders also informed that although Khadka will not contest the election himself, he has told others to fight the election together within the party and to coordinate with the newly elected working committee led by Gagan Thapa in their own way.
Previously, Khadka, who was ranked number one under the Khas Arya category on the proportional representation list, had withdrawn his name and announced that he would contest the direct elections.
