Kabir Rana in the Race to Preserve Congress Legacy in Bhaktapur-2
Bhaktapur. The Nepali Congress has fielded senior journalist and politician Kabir Rana as its candidate for Bhaktapur Constituency No. 2 in the upcoming early elections scheduled for March 5, following the 'Gen Z Movement.'
Active in politics for nearly five decades and in 'mission journalism' for democracy for four decades, Rana views his candidacy as an honor for his loyalty and sacrifice toward the party.
Speaking to media persons after filing his candidacy, Rana stated that along with the traditional ideals of the Nepali Congress (democracy, socialism, and nationality), he will now move forward with agendas suited to the changed circumstances.
Noting that a new dimension has been added to politics after the 'Jaindav Movement' of September 8 and 9, he said, "Politics from now on should not be for the greed of power, but for development and good governance. A corruption-free society and a concrete plan to stop youth migration are my priorities."
Rana emphasized that instead of old theoretical education, there should now be a focus on technical and skill-based education that creates employment.
Considering Bhaktapur Constituency No. 2 as a historical stronghold of the Nepali Congress, Rana presented himself as the strongest candidate in the region. "Looking at the history since 2048 B.S, we have won here the majority of the time. Although results sometimes reversed due to some internal misunderstandings within the party, the Congress is now united," he clarified.
He believes that the changes brought to policy, leadership, and the constitution by the party's special general convention have added new enthusiasm among workers across the country, which will have a positive impact on the election.
Speaking about his electoral commitments, Rana admitted that there is still much work to be done in Bhaktapur. He presented his main plans as follows.
Providing drinking water to areas facing extreme water scarcity. Completing the DPR of the Ashapuri Water Supply Project as an alternative to Melamchi and finishing construction within his tenure.
Landslide control and upgrading the road network. Constructing hospitals with modern equipment instead of traditional health posts and making education technology-friendly.
Bringing the concepts of education, health, and housing put forward by BP Koirala to every household in Bhaktapur-2.
Finally, candidate Rana appealed to the voters of Bhaktapur to vote for the 'Tree' symbol on March 5 to ensure his victory. He also pledged not to play with the people's mandate and to follow his commitments to the letter.
