Remembering Jhalakman Gandharva and Narayan Gopal: A Musical Event in Pokhara

Pokhara | Radio Annapurna 93.4 MHz Pokhara is set to organize a program titled “Smritima Jhalakman ra Narayan Gopal Saanjh” (In Memory of Jhalakman and Narayan Gopal Evening) on Mangsir 18. 

Station Manager Sanjay Kumar Malla informed that the program will be jointly organized by Jhalakman Gandharva Sarangi Pathshala and Pokhara Metropolitan City Ward No. 9. 

He stated that preparations for the program are being intensified. This program is being organized under the “12 Months 12 Programs” initiative spanning the year, as part of the radio’s Silver Jubilee celebration.

Ward Chairman of Pokhara Metropolitan City Ward No. 9, Dipendra Marsani, expressed his belief that the program, organized in memory of the creators who have made significant contributions to the Nepali music sector, will have a distinct prestige. 

He also urged ward residents to participate in the program. He expressed happiness that the ward office was able to join the program organized on the occasion of the radio's Silver Jubilee. He stated that the ward also gives importance to the fields of song, music, art, and literature.

Program Coordinator Rajaram Paudel informed that the program will start at 4:30 PM in the evening at Phalcha in Mahendrapul, Pokhara. As entry is free, Coordinator Paudel requested everyone to attend and support the event, where they can remember Jhalakman Gandharva and Narayan Gopal through the tunes of the Sarangi. 

Students studying at the Jhalakman Gandharva Sarangi Pathshala will perform the songs of Jhalakman and Narayan Gopal with Sarangi music.

To make the program grand, it will also be supported by Pokhara Metropolitan City Ward No. 3, Ward No. 11, and Ward No. 12 as promoters, along with Pokhara Internet, Parichaya Advertising, Palikhe Dhaka Topi, S.K. Sound, Rupakot Jyoti Gold and Silver Shop, CityOne Television, and Newa Mis: Puch: Kaski.

The radio station had been organizing the Narayan Gopal Saanjh every year in Narayan Gopal’s memory.

On the occasion of the Silver Jubilee, the radio has previously done work such as donating food and clothing to the Batsyayana Briddhashram in Pokhara 14, organizing various discussion-based programs, distributing stationery materials to the District Police Office Kaski following arson and vandalism during the Gen Z movement, cleaning the premises of the Bindhyabasini Temple (known as a famous religious tourist destination), and providing national attire support to the students of Jhalakman Gandharva Sarangi Pathshala.

Radio Annapurna was established on Baisakh 12, 2058 B.S. In the 25 years of its duration, the radio has succeeded in creating a distinct identity in the communication sector.
