Handicraft Department Promotes Economic Development Through Handicrafts
Kathmandu: The Handicraft Department supports the economic development of artisans across the country through the production and sale of handicrafts.
The department provides fellowships for research on traditional handicraft techniques, documents research findings, publishes books on handicrafts, organizes workshops and seminars on craft skills and techniques, and introduces artisans to modern technologies for handicraft production.
By taking a single piece of art as a model and creating similar pieces, such works become handicrafts. Under the leadership of a member of the Educational Council, the department also assists artisans and encourages them to find markets for their products.
Training ordinary workers to become artisans can also contribute to improving the country’s economic condition.
