Nepali Congress Vice President Dhanaraj Gurung's Remarks on General Convention

Nepali Congress Vice President Dhanaraj Gurung, commenting on the ongoing debate within the party regarding the General Convention, claimed that Dr. Shekhar Koirala is the only one who has clearly demanded the General Convention be held Mangsir 2082.

Addressing the 8th Council Meeting of the Nepal Financial Institution Employees Union, Agricultural Development Bank Central Committee in Biratnagar, he stated that until Bhadau 22, no one in the Central Committee had raised the issue of holding the General Convention on time, and everyone remained silent hoping their tenure would be extended.

He mentioned that the debate within the party suddenly escalated after the Gen Z Movement, and argued that if the issue of holding the General Convention on time had been raised earlier, it could have been considered justified.

Gurung noted that it is wrong to link elements seeking to burn down structures, including Singha Durbar, with the Gen Z Movement, claiming that groups actively trying to create instability in the country are operating.

He recalled the difficulties of rural life before 2062 BS, stating that despite the development of roads, telephone services, and infrastructure in recent years, those who only spread negativity remain active.

Arguing that the current electoral system will not provide a solution for the country, he contended that they should not proceed to elections without amending the constitution.

Highlighting that the morale of the police has weakened after the Gen Z Movement, and the possibility of elections is low in such a situation, he stressed the need for all political parties to unite.

Meanwhile, Ajay Kumar Rai, General Secretary of the Congress-affiliated NTUC (Nepal Trade Union Congress), stated that the NTUC released a 16-point statement after its meeting on Kartik 21-22.

He warned that the NTUC would take the lead if there is any attempt to seize trade union rights by organizing a national gathering in Biratnagar.

He also demanded that Nepalese workers abroad should be able to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming elections from their workplaces.
