Government’s Approach Toward Parliament Is Wrong: MP Gopal Bhattarai
Kathmandu — CPN-UML lawmaker Gopal Bhattarai has accused the government of having an incorrect approach toward Parliament.
Speaking at the National Assembly meeting held on Tuesday, Bhattarai alleged that the government interfered with Parliament right from the beginning of its tenure. He said that parliamentary party offices are mostly closed, staff have been removed, and there is a shortage of the human resources required for legislative work.
He said, “This government began its work by interfering with Parliament. Parliamentary party offices are mostly closed. Employees have been removed. There is a lack of manpower for legislative work. How can lawmakers carry out legislative duties without human resources?”
Stating that the election process is currently moving forward, he also pointed out that upcoming parliamentary meetings could be affected and said the House should pay attention to this issue.
He said, “The election process is moving ahead. We represent our parties, and we also have roles to play in the elections. Therefore, there is a possibility that upcoming meetings may be affected, and it is necessary to pay attention to that.”
He further claimed that Parliament cannot function if it is interfered with, asserting that the government’s overall outlook toward Parliament is flawed. “How can Parliament function if the government interferes with it? Therefore, the government’s approach toward Parliament is wrong,” he said.
