Gen Z Youth Warn Ignoring Their Demands and Focusing on Elections Could Be Dangerous
Kathmandu — Gen Z youths have concluded that abandoning their demands and resorting only to election rhetoric could prove dangerous. Organizing a press conference in the capital on Friday, they warned that the government’s disregard for their sentiments would not be tolerated.
Gen Z leader Birendra Shahi said it was unfortunate that the government appeared almost unaware of the demands raised during the Gen Z movement held on Bhadau 23 and 24.
He stated that the continuous migration of young people abroad and the country’s fragile economic condition are primarily caused by old political parties, stressing the need to build a new political force as an alternative.
Pointing out the lack of prospects within the country, Shahi said, “Why does our labor go abroad, and why does our intellect not remain in the country? Who will answer these serious questions?”
Indra Shah expressed anger, saying that a former head of government who brutally suppressed the Gen Z movement was now moving around openly. Questioning this, he said, “Why are KP Oli and Ramesh Lekhak speaking so confidently? Was our friends’ sacrifice for this?”
Prakash Sanjyal accused the current government led by Sushila Karki of ignoring the spirit and sentiments of Gen Z and moving forward under foreign agendas. He also alleged that even those claiming to be ‘new’ forces had devalued the dedication, struggle, and sacrifices of Gen Z.
Sanjyal further objected to so-called new leaders gaining prominence merely through social media virality and placing relatives on proportional representation lists.
At the same program, Gen Z members Nirajan Sanjyal and Anish Shrestha urged the government to address the demands of martyrs’ families and the injured.
