Government Fast-Tracks Classification of Injured Gen Z Protesters

KATHMANDU – The government has intensified the classification of those injured during the demonstrations organized by the younger Gen Z generation on September 8 and 9 (Bhadra 23 and 24).

The Ministry of Home Affairs has stated that the classification is being accelerated based on the procedure approved by the Council of Ministers on Mangsir 22 regarding the provision of financial assistance and livelihood support based on the condition of disability and severity of the individuals injured in the Gen Z protests.

According to the Secretariat of Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, the District Administration Offices will recommend the classification, and the Ministry of Health and Population will certify it on that basis.

According to the procedure, there will be a technical committee coordinated by a Joint Secretary of the Health Ministry to classify the injured persons based on their disability. The committee has made arrangements to classify the injured into four categories: general, moderate, serious, and critically serious.

The Ministry of Home Affairs informed that arrangements have been made for seriously injured individuals to receive Rs 9,000 monthly and critically serious individuals to receive Rs 18,000 monthly as a livelihood allowance.

According to the procedure, there is a provision for moderately injured individuals to receive a monthly allowance of Rs 4,000.

The Classification Facilitation Committee stated that the process was moved forward following instructions to the relevant agencies to intensify the work of classifying the injured, as per the public sentiment and the initiatives of Home Minister Aryal.
