Industry Minister Claims 10% Ethanol Mix Will Significantly Reduce Nepal's Petrol Imports
Kathmandu: Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Anil Kumar Sinha, has stated that importing approximately 130 million liters of petrol can be reduced annually by mixing just 10 percent ethanol into petrol.
Speaking at an interaction program held in Kathmandu on Sunday regarding "Ethanol Blending Policy in Nepal: Opportunities, Challenges, and Implementation Strategy," Minister Sinha made this assertion. He claimed that reducing the import of about 130 million liters of petrol would save foreign currency equivalent to 6 billion rupees.
"By mixing only 10 percent ethanol in petrol, the import of about 130 million liters of petrol can be reduced annually. This will save foreign currency worth 6 Arba rupees," he said. "As a result, money earned in Nepal will be prevented from going abroad."
Minister Sinha also mentioned that the Government of Nepal has prepared and approved the Ethanol Blending in Petroleum Products Order 2082. Highlighting that the goal of mixing 10 percent ethanol in petrol is significant for the environment and the overall economy, Minister Sinha stated that biofuels would reduce emissions from vehicles.
