Election Commission Speeds Up Preparations for Upcoming Elections
Kathmandu: The Election Commission of Nepal is quickly preparing for both the National Assembly and House of Representatives elections at the same time.
For the National Assembly election scheduled for Magh 11, the Commission has already appointed district judges as election officers. At the same time, it has released the schedule for the Proportional Representation (PR) system for the House of Representatives.
As the deadline for political parties to submit their candidate lists draws near, the Commission says it is finishing all necessary administrative and technical work. According to the Commission, 93 political parties have applied to participate in the PR system.
To help these parties choose their candidates correctly, the Commission has also provided special training. This training explained the legal rules and the new inclusion percentages (quotas for different groups) based on the latest census.
The Commission clarified that the percentages for the PR system were updated using data from the National Census 2078 to reflect changes in the population of various groups.
Meanwhile, political parties are busy with their internal meetings. According to the schedule, they must submit their final "closed lists" of candidates on Poush 13 and 14. The Commission stated it is working hard to ensure all processes are completed on time.
