Candidates from Four Political Parties Lose Election Deposits in Mugu
Mugu – Out of the seven political parties that participated in the House of Representatives election in Mugu district, candidates from four parties, including RSP’s Bhuwan Tamta, are set to lose their election deposits. The Office of the Chief Election Officer informed that the deposits of four parties that received less than 10% of the total valid votes cast will be forfeited.
The Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), Nepali Communist Party, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), CPN (Maoist) [Biplav], and Progressive Democratic Party participated in the election held on march 5.
Among the seven parties, candidates from the Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), and Nepali Communist Party secured more than 10% of the valid votes. Those receiving less than 10% include the Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, CPN (Maoist) [Biplav], and the Progressive Democratic Party.
In the single constituency of Mugu district, which has 36,031 registered voters, 22,071 voters cast their ballots. Out of the total votes cast, 21,225 were valid and 846 were void.
Of the total valid votes, Khadka Bahadur Shahi of the Nepali Congress was elected with 7,914 votes. Purna Bahadur Rokaya of CPN (UML) secured 6,718 votes to finish second, while Chandra Bahadur Shahi of the Nepali Communist Party came third with 5,558 votes.
Those losing their deposits include Bhuwan Tamta of the Rastriya Swatantra Party with 530 votes, Bal Bahadur Malla of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party with 203 votes, Rangabir Pariyar of CPN (Maoist) [Biplav] with 280 votes, and Aitan Kumar Malla of the Progressive Democratic Party with 22 votes.
Chief Election Officer Min Bahadur Kunwar confirmed that the deposits of all four candidates were forfeited as they received less than 10% of the total valid votes.
