Election Commission Issues Directives for Silent Period and Voting Day

Kathmandu. The Election Commission has requested the Ministry of Home Affairs to ensure the effective implementation of the election silent period.

The Commission has instructed Chief District Officers and security agencies to take immediate legal action against any violations of the code of conduct and to report such incidents. Furthermore, the Commission has urged a ban on the sale, distribution, and consumption of alcohol starting seven days prior to the polling date until the announcement of the final results.

On the day of voting, the operation of all public and private vehicles will be prohibited, with the exception of essential service vehicles. The Commission clarified that flights will operate as scheduled, and arrangements will be made to allow passengers with tickets to use airline or private vehicles.

Additionally, the Commission stated that voters must carry one of the following documents to the polling station: a voter ID card, citizenship certificate, national ID card, passport, land ownership certificate, or driver's license.

The statement also mentioned that a special unit will be established at the Commission's secretariat premises to distribute vehicle passes for use on polling day.
