Election Code of Conduct 2082 Approved by Election Commission

Kathmandu: The Election Commission has approved the Election Code of Conduct, 2082, introducing several new provisions. However, the Commission has not yet decided when it will come into effect.

The code includes a requirement for elected parties or candidates to publish an annual progress report based on their manifesto. It also introduces, for the first time, provisions related to “green elections.”

For the upcoming House of Representatives election on Falgun 21, a candidate is not allowed to use more than two vehicles for campaigning.

With the permission of the Election Officer, a candidate may use a maximum of two two-wheeled, three-wheeled, or four-wheeled vehicles powered by electricity or mechanical means in the designated constituency or location. In areas where such vehicles cannot operate, up to four horses may be used.

The code specifies that political parties, candidates, affiliated organizations, and related individuals are not allowed to use vehicles with foreign number plates.

Similarly, when using helicopter services, the political party must remain within the spending limit determined by the Commission, based on the number of candidates in the proportional representation closed list system.
