Election Commission Prioritizes Local Goods for Upcoming Polls
KATHMANDU, Jan 29: The Election Commission has adopted a policy of using Nepal-made materials as much as possible for the upcoming House of Representatives elections. The Commission introduced this policy to make the election cost-effective and transparent, while encouraging the use of local resources.
According to Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, a total of 51 types of materials are used for the election, and arrangements have been made to procure 37 of these locally through provincial and district offices.
Fourteen types of materials will be purchased at the central level, with the majority of procurement assigned to the Salt Trading Company under a ‘G2G’ (government-to-government) concept. He stated that only 67.5 million rupees worth of new materials have been purchased for this election, while other requirements are being met by reusing existing stock.
For the election scheduled for March 6, the programs for filing nominations, handling claims or objections, and awarding election symbols have already been completed.
