Election Commission Requests Clarification from Kathmandu Metropolitan City

The Election Commission has sought a clarification from Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The Commission sent a letter to the metropolis regarding reports that it has started providing door-to-door basic health services to citizens aged 70 and above after the Election Code of Conduct 2082 came into effect.

The Commission stated that the letter was sent after receiving audio-visual material of remarks made by the Acting Mayor concerning this matter.

Section 5, Clause (a), Sub-clause (c) of the Election Code of Conduct 2082 stipulates that "no programs other than those approved in the annual budget and program shall be conducted, nor shall new policies, plans, or programs be announced, approved, or operated; however, there shall be no bar to operating such programs in the event of a communicable disease epidemic or any circumstances beyond control, provided approval is obtained from the Commission."

In this context, the Commission has asked the metropolis to submit a response along with documentation clarifying whether the program reportedly started by the Acting Mayor was included in the annual budget and program or not.

"If the said program was included in the annual budget and program, it is requested as per the decision to submit a certified copy of that document to the Commission within two days of receiving this letter," states the letter sent by the Commission to the metropolis on Monday.
