Dr. Bhattarai: Gen-Z Uprising Caused by Three Parties' Power Lust; Calls for Immediate Elections
Kathmandu. Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has called upon all stakeholders to engage in serious self-introspection and guide the country toward lasting peace and prosperity, marking one month since the historic 'Gen-Z Uprising'.
In a Facebook post, he underscored the need for progressive transformation to prevent the uprising from escalating into further confrontation or disintegration.
Dr. Bhattarai emphasized the need to acknowledge the fact that the uprising stemmed from the anger of the youth and the general public over the extreme greed for power, misgovernance, and corruption by the "three heads" (leaders) of the three major parties who have successively led the government over the last ten years. His main calls are as follows:
The country must be steered onto the fast track of reconstruction through the transformation and generational shift of the old parties, coupled with the broad polarization (unity) of new/alternative forces.
The reality that a dreadful situation may arise and sensitive geopolitics could become active when dissatisfaction grows within the country and state organs are politicized and decay must be seriously understood.
The legitimate demands of the Gen-Z youth (immediately cease the suppression of the movement, take swift action against big corrupt officials, reduce the minimum age for candidacy from 25 to 21 years, implement voting from abroad, etc.) must be fulfilled immediately, and free and fair elections must be held on time.
He also issued a warning, stating that history will never forgive those who commit the arrogant folly of pushing the country further toward conflict and endangering the nation's sovereignty and the federal democratic republic.
