"Did Deuba Go to Singapore Because Nepal Has No Hospitals?" - Severe Criticism as Former PM Flies Abroad for Treatment
Kathmandu: Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and his wife, Arzu Rana Deuba, have flown to Singapore for further medical treatment, sparking intense criticism regarding the state of Nepal's healthcare system.
The Deuba couple was seriously injured during the recent Gen-Z protests and had initially been treated at the military hospital in Chhauni.
The news of their departure for foreign treatment immediately led to public outcry, with citizens asking, "Do big leaders not have hospitals in Nepal and must go abroad for treatment?"
On social media, journalist Rajiv Khatri expressed his strong objection to Deuba leaving the country for medical care, questioning the move by writing, "Permission to go abroad while investigation and raids are ongoing?"
Similarly, social activist Isha Gurung sarcastically commented that the Deuba couple flew to Singapore while the Nepali people and the Gen-Z protestors could only watch.
These are just a few examples of the widespread protest and criticism of this decision at the citizen level. The common sentiment is that all Nepali citizens should receive quality treatment within their own country.
The continuous trend of top political leaders seeking medical care abroad, even for what is perceived as routine treatment, highlights a lack of confidence in the domestic health sector and has caused intense public dissatisfaction.
