NCP’s Matrika Prasad Yadav Officially Declared Elected from Dhanusha-1
Dhanusha — While a court case regarding Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Kishori Sah Kamal is ongoing, Matrika Prasad Yadav, the House of Representatives candidate from the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), has been presented with his election certificate. The Election Officer’s Office handed over the certificate to Yadav on Monday evening.
The office issued the certificate following significant pressure from NCP cadres and supporters. Although the Election Commission had previously canceled the candidacy of RSP candidate Kishori Sah, it had initially requested that a record of the votes he received be maintained. However, the following day, the Commission issued another letter instructing officials not to provide certificates to those elected and to refrain from publishing the final results.
Matrika Prasad Yadav secured 10,428 votes, while Nepali Congress candidate Rampaltan Sah received 9,485 votes and Ram Chandra Mandal of the CPN (UML) received 9,220 votes. Despite the cancellation of RSP candidate Kamal’s candidacy, his election symbol received nearly double the votes obtained by Yadav.
Govinda Acharya, Secretary of the NCP Central Office, also issued a statement claiming it was a serious matter that the Commission had delayed giving the certificate to the victorious candidate, Yadav, given that the candidacy of RSP’s Kishori Sah Kamal had already been voided under the Election Act, 2074
Although the Commission had made the results public based on correspondence from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, it had been hesitant to provide the certificate to Yadav. The case regarding candidate Kamal’s blacklist status is currently pending in the Supreme Court.
