Nepali Congress Leader Deepak Giri Demands Regular Convention be Held by Mid-December

Lalitpur. Nepali Congress Central Member Deepak Giri, in the party's Central Working Committee meeting, recalled an anecdote from the Mahabharata to illustrate the serious condition of the country.

"On the 14th day of the Mahabharata war, Lord Krishna used his divine power to instantly bring on the twilight and helped Arjuna easily slay Jayadratha by bringing back the light when Jayadratha stepped out celebrating Arjuna's supposed failure.

From this, we must understand that the destruction of Bhadra 24 (September 9th) was orchestrated not to bring the Congress or UML back to power, but to find an alternative to them. Therefore, we must understand this and take timely action."

He stressed that the party should abandon the 'business as usual' approach and not delay in implementing radical reforms and approaching the public with new leadership, policy, and programs.

In the Central Working Committee meeting ongoing in Sanepa, Giri also expressed condolences to the deceased in the Gen-Z movement and demanded an investigation into the incident.

He demanded a thorough investigation into the "systematic vandalism and arson targeting Congress offices, leaders' homes, and heritage sites under the guise of an agitation on last Bhadra 24 (September 9th)" and called for strict action against the culprits.

He mentioned that the country is in an extremely sensitive state, with its very existence under threat. Giri stated, "I want to recall the Nepali proverb, 'The seven villages drowned while the boatmen were still consulting'. Therefore, the party should not be held hostage by indecision now."

Giving the examples of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and newly elected New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, he suggested that the Congress must also move forward with contemporary new leadership.

He argued that the dissolution of the House of Representatives was unconstitutional and urged the Congress to form a formal position on whether or not to support the reinstatement of the parliament to rectify this and address the demands of the Gen-Z movement.

Regarding the increasingly complex issue of the 15th General Convention schedule in the Congress meeting, Giri expressed respect for the sentiments of the convention delegates across the country and demanded that the party announce the schedule for the regular General Convention within the month of Mangsir (mid-December) and hold the conventions of the sister organizations.

Furthermore, he requested general amnesty for all Congress members who were previously penalized for not supporting coalition candidates in the last election, considering the current political circumstances.

Giri, a former minister and now outgoing Member of Parliament, highlighted that structural reforms are essential for eradicating corruption, ensuring transparency, and developing a culture of accountability in the leadership.

He stated that to build a new Nepal, a new Congress must be built, emphasizing that efforts for party reform should begin from the village and municipal levels.

He reiterated that the Congress must not delay in implementing radical reforms within the party, ensuring internal democracy, and presenting policies and programs to the public that can fulfill the youth's aspiration for a corruption-free and well-governed Nepal.dipak-giri-1762918185.jpeg
