Nepali Congress Leaders Brief Election Commission on Special Convention Decisions

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has claimed that the decisions made by the Special Convention will be paramount for the party. Speaking to media persons while visiting the Election Commission to update the decisions of the Special Convention, Thapa stated that the convention was completed according to the party statute. He informed that all necessary documents regarding the leadership change have been submitted to the Commission.

He said, "The Special Convention has also made decisions regarding leadership selection, due to which the existing Central Working Committee has been changed. There is a provision that the details of the new Central Working Committee must be updated at the Election Commission as per Section 51 of the Political Parties Act, 2073 B.S. We have submitted an application to the Commission accordingly."

According to Thapa, the Special Convention was organized according to Sub-section 2 of Article 17 of the Nepali Congress party statute. He clarified that since the convention is the supreme body of the party according to Article 15 of the party statute, the decisions made by it are final and paramount.

Thapa stated that all necessary details and evidence have been submitted to the Commission and expressed confidence that the update process would be completed by tomorrow or the day after, as the nomination program is scheduled for Magh 6. He also mentioned that the decisions of the Special Convention have already been made public.

He said, "Today, we have come to the Election Commission with an application to update the records, stating that our Special Convention has concluded and it has changed the leadership. A new Central Working Committee has arrived. We have submitted all the required details. Nominations are on Magh 6. Therefore, we believe the update work will be finalized by tomorrow or at the latest, the day after. We have submitted everything with factual evidence. These are also public."

Similarly, General Secretary Pradip Paudel claimed that the Nepali Congress is a party that operates as specified by the party statute and is functioning accordingly. He stated that it is not possible to seek consensus through dialogue by going outside the statute.

He said, "The Congress party should run according to what the statute specifies. The party is running accordingly. It is not possible to say let's seek consensus by talking outside of the statute."
