CM Pandey Returns from China Visit Focused on Nepal-China Ties

Pokhara — Gandaki Province Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey has returned to Pokhara today after completing a week-long visit to China. He had participated in a special program organized by the Tibetan government on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Nepal-China diplomatic relations.

During his visit, Chief Minister Pandey held talks with His Excellency Wang Zhungjun, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) for the Tibet Autonomous Region, discussing the expansion of bilateral relations between the two countries. He proposed the regular and systematic operation of the Korala border point to promote cooperation in trade, tourism, and investment between Nepal and China.

To facilitate the pilgrimage to Mansarovar, the Chief Minister requested the use of the Tibet border crossing, the expansion of direct flights from major Chinese cities to Kathmandu and Pokhara, investment cooperation between Gandaki Province and Tibet, and visa and entry pass facilitation for tourists wishing to travel from Pokhara to Lhasa.

Highlighting the strengthened ties between Gandaki and Tibet through infrastructure built with Chinese support and tourism promotion activities, Chief Minister Pandey expressed his commitment to further enhancing cooperation.

CPC General Secretary Wang Zhungjun acknowledged the Gandaki Provincial Government’s interest in the operation of the Korala border point and responded positively. He also stated that the Tibetan government is interested in cooperating in sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and industry.

On the same occasion, Chief Minister Pandey also met with Ao Liuquan, Party Secretary of the CPC’s Linzhi Municipal Committee, and Mayor Bata. During the meeting, the two sides held bilateral discussions on strengthening cooperation between Pokhara and Linzhi in areas such as tourism, sports, and trade.

The visit was described as productive, and both the Gandaki and Tibet governments reached an understanding to continue such high-level visits and collaborations in the future.
