Election Commission Sets Campaign Period for House of Representatives Election
Kathmandu: The Election Commission has designated the period from February 16 to March 2 for election campaigning for the House of Representatives election.
According to the Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari, political parties and candidates have been urged to conduct their campaigns while adhering to the code of conduct within the specified period.
During a press conference held at the Commission on Tuesday, Bhandari cleared up the misconception that campaigning is prohibited after filing nominations, clarifying that after receiving election symbols, candidates can meet with voters and collect feedback through door-to-door programs.
However, he stated that large-scale mass meetings, workshops, and seminars cannot be organized on a party basis. "The election code of conduct is already in effect. The Commission reserves the right to investigate and take necessary decisions if complaints regarding code of conduct violations are received," he said.
Acting Chief Commissioner Bhandari also clarified that positions held by provincial assembly members and local level representatives who have become candidates for the House of Representatives will become vacant, and elections for those vacant seats will be held after March 5.
The Election Commission stated that the responsible role of all parties is essential to ensure a fair, clean, and dignified election.
