Calls for Party President’s Presence at Nepali Congress Special Convention
Kathmandu — The closed session of the Nepali Congress Special Convention has begun at Bhrikutimandap. The special convention, which started on Sunday, is holding its closed session today as part of the overall proceedings.
Deepak Poudel, a people’s representative who arrived in Kathmandu for the special convention, said that this convention is a historic opportunity for the Nepali Congress. He noted that while regular conventions are held routinely, special conventions are very rare.
He stated, “The special convention of the Nepali Congress is an opportunity and a moment of pride for us. Such a convention is being held only now after 2012 BS. I believe this will re-energize not only the Congress but the entire nation.”
Similarly, people’s representative Padam Prasad Prasai said it would be better if the party president were present at the special convention. He added that even if the president does not attend, an alternative should be sought.
He said, “It would have been good if the party president attended this convention. There is still a possibility that he may come. But even if he does not, the question of what the alternative is will arise. Looking at the aspirations of the people’s representatives, if he does not attend, the president himself may be sidelined.”
Prasai further expressed confidence that more than 75 percent of people’s representatives would participate in the special convention and said they are hopeful that the Nepali Congress will emerge with young leadership after the convention.
