National Assembly Member Bhatta Slams Current Political Leadership
Kathmandu — National Assembly member Narayan Datt Bhatta has strongly criticized the current political leadership and the state of democratic practice in the country. Speaking at the National Assembly meeting held on Wednesday, Bhatta questioned the working style of the government and political leaders.
Hinting at Prime Minister Sushila Karki, he remarked that although it is unclear to him whether a government of civil society leaders has actually been formed, he clearly sees a tendency of “ringing bells everywhere” around him.
Bhatta criticized the mindset of individuals who consider themselves societal “heroes,” raise moral questions about others, yet evade responsibility and later hurl accusations again in the name of political parties.
Referring to former prime ministers Sher Bahadur Deuba, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ KP Sharma Oli, Madhav Kumar Nepal, and Jhal Nath Khanal, he clarified that the rights exercised in the name of democracy remain strictly under the framework of the Constitution.
He objected to ongoing attempts to portray these constitutional rights as meaningless, saying narratives are being built to claim that “these mean nothing.” According to Bhatta, such thinking and practices pose a serious threat to the democratic system.
Calling the current situation a matter of grave concern, he stated, “Today in this country, order, rule of law, process, and institutional systems have all been destroyed.” He concluded that under the banner of democracy, the very system and procedures themselves are being attacked.
