JSP Nepal Leader Claims Election is a Fight for Identity and Federalism
KATHMANDU. Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Nepal leader Purna Basnet has stated that the upcoming House of Representatives election should not only teach a lesson to the Congress and Communists but also protect politics from thoughtless populism. Basnet shared this view while commenting on the initial atmosphere and election campaign of the House of Representatives election.
Basnet said, "Looking at the election atmosphere, it seems voters will certainly give the Congress and Communists the results of their political actions this time, but there is also a danger that voters might choose a lack of ideology and fall into the trap of populism as an alternative."
He mentions that the party's stand against the Land Bill is a primary reason for voters to support JSP Nepal in the election. "From a partisan perspective, this might seem like an issue only for the Terai-Madhesh, but if one thinks as a citizen, it is a problem for the entire country," he said.
He claimed that JSP Nepal's role in naming the Madhesh Province has given pride, identity, and respect to Madhesh and the Madheshi people. He said, "For the rights and identity of everyone, it is necessary for JSP Nepal to win."
Asserting that the credit for the country being a federal nation goes to JSP Nepal, he claimed that voters would choose JSP Nepal to institutionalize the federal democratic republic.
He stated that this election is an opportunity for voters to address the demand for constitutional amendment raised by JSP Nepal. He further noted that the numerous pro-people works and decisions made by the party in the past through both the streets and parliament are clear reasons why JSP Nepal will receive votes in the election.
He mentioned that if JSP Nepal emerges strong from the election, the movement for the rights of oppressed communities will also be strengthened. He added that voters must remain conscious when choosing representatives for themselves.
