Nepali Congress Wins Proportional Representation in Bajura
Bajura — The Nepali Congress, which won the direct elections in Bajura, has also emerged as the top party in the proportional representation category. In the 2082 House of Representatives elections, Congress secured the first position in proportional representation following its victory in the direct seats.
According to the Office of the Chief Election Officer, out of a total of 45,669 votes cast in the proportional category, the Nepali Congress received 16,746 votes. Similarly, the CPN-UML received 15,897 votes.
The Rastriya Swatantra Party received 6,820 votes, the Nepali Communist Party 3,358, RPP 470, Nepal Janata Samrakshan Party 136, Sarvabhaum Nagarik Party 131, and the CPN-Maoist 215 votes. Various other parties received fewer than one hundred votes.
Out of the total votes cast, 44,469 votes were valid, while 1,200 votes were declared invalid. There were 89,343 eligible voters for the proportional representation category. In the direct election results finalized on Sunday, Nepali Congress candidate Janak Raj Giri won by 540 votes.
Giri secured 17,173 votes. His closest rival, Thapa of the UML, received 16,633 votes. Hemraj Thapa of the Rastriya Swatantra Party received 6,035 votes, while Prakash Bahadur Shah of the CPN received 3,424 votes.
Additionally, Keshar Shahi received 352 votes for the plow symbol, Dipak DC received 97 for the eye symbol, Bhupendra BK received 333 for the rose symbol, and independent candidate Upendra Shahi received 72 votes for the bird symbol.
Five candidates in Bajura lost their security deposits. Among those who lost their deposits were former Sudurpashchim Province Minister Prakash Bahadur Shah and four others.
