Social Activist Ashika Tamang Raises Alarm Over Corruption at Airport and Pashupatinath Area
Kathmandu.
Social activist Ashika Tamang has strongly objected to the corruption taking place at the airport and at the sacred Pashupatinath temple area, urging the government to take immediate corrective action.
Through a statement on social media, Tamang accused successive governments of exploiting the law to misuse public property. According to her, the time has come to end corruption and build a prosperous nation through transparency.
Regarding the airport, she put forward five key demands:
Stop the practice of charging unnecessary fees under various pretexts as soon as passengers enter the airport.
Reduce parking fees immediately, making them affordable and transparent for the public.
Cancel the special privileges and rights given irregularly to certain individuals and businesses, and ensure fair, transparent management.
Allow relatives of departing passengers to enter up to the baggage weighing area, so that extra luggage can be taken back if needed.
Make the entire airport clean and attractive like the VIP lounge, and begin large-scale beautification efforts.
Likewise, she drew attention to widespread corruption at the Pashupatinath temple area, citing reports that billions are being misused. According to Tamang, financial manipulation in appointments to the Pashupati Development Fund, from member-secretary to general members, has become a serious issue that must be stopped.
Her demands regarding Pashupatinath include:
Immediate investigation and action on alleged corruption in the procurement of cremation machines.
Investigation into irregularities in staff appointments at the Pashupati Development Fund, with dismissal and legal action against those found guilty.
Thorough probe into the misuse of billions of rupees reportedly distributed to political cadres under various names.
Systematic management and beautification of the Pashupatinath temple premises, ensuring proper arrangements for pilgrims and devotees from around the world.
“The government must understand the sentiments of Gen-Z and begin these reforms immediately,” Tamang stressed. She further pledged to continue raising her voice against irregularities and corruption in all sectors.
