Veteran Journalist Suman Sapkota Honored in Kathmandu for Outstanding Contributions to Media and Society

KATHMANDU — In recognition of over fifteen years of dedicated service to Nepalese media and journalism, veteran journalist Suman Sapkota was formally honored during a special felicitation ceremony held in the capital city. The honor was jointly conferred by legendary folk music maestro (Lok Swar Samrat) Raju Pariyar and Chandra Mani Gautam, President of National Folk Broadcasters Nepal.

The grand event was chaired by Eman Khanal, operator of Mahak Recording Studio, with Raju Pariyar gracing the occasion as the chief guest. Demonstrating the rich intersection of Nepalese media and cultural arts, the ceremony also celebrated the official release of the new folk track ‘Mugling Bazarma’, voiced by singer-presenter Bishu Gurung alongside acclaimed vocalist Melina Rai.

For over a decade, Sapkota has been a prominent face in parliamentary reporting and legislative journalism, bringing depth, clarity, and accountability to national coverage. His expansive, multi-platform career includes impactful tenures across primary national media outlets such as Avenuez Television, Sutra News, Deshantar.com, OS Nepal, Gorkha FM, and Radio Deshantar.

This recent tribute adds to a distinguished trajectory of national and international awards celebrating Sapkota's unwavering commitment to the press. He was previously presented with the prestigious ‘Music, Art, and Journalism Honor 2023’ by then Foreign Minister N.P. Saud at the 3rd Himalayan International Award, accompanied by a traditional shawl, ceremonial garland, and letter of appreciation.

Sapkota’s contributions have been recognized across various prestigious platforms, including the 4th Genius Music Award held at the Cultural Corporation (Rastriya Nachghar) in Jamal, Kathmandu, where he was conferred with the ‘Journalism Honor’.

Beyond national borders, his impactful reporting earned him the coveted ‘Neel Krishna Jashoda Youth Journalism Top Honor 2024’ from the California-based Neel Krishna Jashoda Sitaula Foundation in the United States. Sapkota’s sustained track record underscores the crucial role of reflective, accountable reporting in shaping public discourse and strengthening Nepal's media ecosystem.
