Rastra Bank Brings 1,000-Rupee Note into Circulation with New Security Features

Kathmandu. Nepal Rastra Bank has brought a new 1,000-rupee denomination banknote (Series–2025) into circulation starting today. According to the Currency Management Department, while the size and basic purple design of the new note remain the same as before, a light green border feature has been retained.

The bank stated that additional security features—including a watermark and a color-changing security thread—have been incorporated into the new note. The front side of the note features an image of Mount Everest, a rhododendron watermark, tactile horizontal lines alongside the Roman letter 'M' for visually impaired individuals to identify the note by touch, and a 3.5 mm wide security thread inscribed with "NRB" and "1000". This thread appears red when viewed straight on and changes to green when tilted.

Additionally, to the right of Mount Everest, an image of Goddess Bhagwati is included, which shifts from gold to green depending on the viewing angle. The note bears the signature of Governor Prof. Dr. Bishwanath Poudel. The reverse side features an illustration of "Ram" and "Laxman"—twin elephants born at the government elephant camp in Chitwan—seven rhododendron flowers representing all seven provinces, and the historical pillar structure of Lohan Chowk located at Hanuman Dhoka.

According to Rastra Bank, following the designated prefix numbers of the 2079 BS series, distribution has commenced for the new notes ranging from serial numbers ट/९२ ०००००१ (Ta/92 000001) to त/५० ९९९९९९ (Ta/50 999999). The bank has urged the general public to handle the banknotes with care, emphasizing that currency is a national asset.
