Human Skeleton Found in Kakarbhitta, Two Arrested

Jhapa. A human skeleton buried underground has been recovered in Kakarbhitta, Jhapa, during an investigation into a kidnapping and hostage case. Police have arrested two individuals suspected of involvement in the crime.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ranjan Awale, Information Officer at the District Police Office, Jhapa, Dilnath Bajgai—a permanent resident of Mahangkal Rural Municipality-1 (formerly Mikhel), Lalitpur—had been missing from Kakarbhitta, Mechinagar Municipality-6, Jhapa, since November 14, 2024 (Kartik 29, 2081 BS). His wife, Tulasa Budha Bajgai, filed a missing person complaint with the police.

During the investigation based on the complaint, police grew suspicious of Bajgai's close companion, 45-year-old Gupta Bahadur Singh (also known as "Ram"), originally from Myagdi and currently residing in Mechinagar-10, and brought him in for questioning.

DSP Awale informed that during interrogation, Singh led officers to a pig farm he operated on land owned by Jai Prasad Tiwari in Bhansa Khola (Gairigaon), Mechinagar-7. Upon excavating the site using a backhoe in the presence of local residents and public representatives, police discovered a skeleton resembling a human form.

The recovered skeleton has been sent to the Provincial Hospital in Bhadrapur, Jhapa, for examination. Police stated that procedures are underway to send samples to the Central Police Science Laboratory for testing following the autopsy to verify whether the skeleton belongs to the missing Dilnath Bajgai.

In connection with the crime, police have arrested Gupta Bahadur Singh along with 49-year-old Sanjay Lama, originally from Alepur, Birpara, India, and currently residing in Mechinagar-8, and are carrying out further investigations.
