Bhotekoshi Flood Update: 1,453 Bodies Recovered

Kathmandu: As of 5:00 AM on Thursday, 1,453 bodies have been recovered following the devastating flood in Rasuwa's Bhotekoshi.

Out of these, 1,451 bodies were retrieved across various districts: 236 in Rasuwa, 204 in Nuwakot, 72 in Dhading, 368 in Chitwan, 79 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 232 in Nawalparasi (East), and 222 in Nawalparasi (West). Additionally, 2 people died during treatment in Kathmandu.

To identify the recovered bodies, the process—ranging from DNA sample collection to necessary legal procedures—has been completed, and 1,333 bodies have been managed (buried safely) so far. For identification purposes, a total of 3,364 DNA samples have been collected, including 1,329 from the deceased and 2,035 from relatives. Furthermore, details of 1,421 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the Nepal Police website.

A total of 7,975 police personnel have been deployed in the flood-affected areas for rescue, search, relief distribution, and body management operations. Search efforts are currently ongoing for 4,718 missing individuals.

Similarly, 1,280 people are currently being accommodated in holding centers across various districts.
