Strong Business Community Support for Sapkota in Chandrapur Chamber Leadership, Sah Poses Challenge

Chandrapur, Rautahat — Ahead of the 28th annual general meeting and 8th convention of the Chandrapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry scheduled for this Saturday, current president Uday Narayan Sapkota is gaining solid backing from the business community.

The convention, to be held in the chamber’s newly constructed grand building, has seen widespread calls from traders to continue Sapkota’s leadership. He is credited for protecting business interests and leading notable achievements during his tenure.

Under Sapkota’s leadership, the chamber completed its own building, actively resolved member issues, and initiated policy reforms, earning him significant trust among businesspeople.

“Mr. Sapkota has given the chamber an institutional identity. There are still important tasks left to complete under his leadership,” said businessman Shivaram Raut. “That’s why we want a unanimous decision in favor of his leadership.”

Sapkota is recognized for his clear communication, visionary leadership, and strong coordination with political, administrative, and business sectors. These qualities have earned him a reputation as a visionary leader among the business community.

However, former general secretary Sunil Kumar Sah has also declared his candidacy for president. Supported reportedly by leaders from Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, Sah promises organizational reforms. But many local businessmen criticize his past performance, noting he did not make significant contributions during his time as general secretary.

“We don’t recall Mr. Sah doing anything notable as general secretary. This time, institutional continuity seems the better choice,” said Dipak Neupane, a businessman from Chandranigahapur.

This year’s convention is seen as a landmark event in the chamber’s history. Business owners are closely watching who will lead future policy reforms, foster a business-friendly environment, and strengthen coordination with provincial and local governments to safeguard traders’ rights.

Most businesspeople are expected to support Sapkota’s team, though competition is likely if no consensus is reached.

The chamber plans to focus on strengthening the economic sector, promoting youth entrepreneurship, and enhancing cooperation among the chamber, government, and business community during the next term.
