RSP is now on the Prachanda Path: Purna Basnet
Purna Basnet, head of the publicity department of the Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal, has said that artists signed in favor of Rabi Lamichhane out of emotional impulse.
Basnet stated that while Rabi Lamichhane is facing political revenge, the artists signed the campaign launched by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) driven more by political bias and emotions than by legal considerations.
Basnet said, "Artists are naturally sensitive. They can empathize with others’ pain. On one hand, major corrupt figures, commission agents, and fraudsters are protected by Singha Durbar and political leadership, while on the other, Rabi Lamichhane is imprisoned for cooperative fraud. So, it is natural for artists to feel he is being treated unjustly. The presence of human sensitivity and political leanings in artists should not be taken negatively."
He added that the state’s law looks at the crime, not the individual — but many events in the country have failed to prove this, which he sees as a failure of the state. Recalling the people’s government and people’s courts once formed by the Maoists, he remarked that RSP is now exactly on the "Prachanda Path."
