190 Million Rupees Lost to Online Fraud in Kaski in One Year: SP Karki Urges Caution

Pokhara: Kaski Police Chief SP Navin Karki said that online fraud cases have increased dangerously lately. While opening the 22nd Annual General Meeting of the Community Police Service, he said that 190 million rupees (19 Crore) were stolen through online scams in Kaski in just one year.

He said that the police, community, and local people must work together to stop this. He noted that even educated people are being cheated and urged everyone to be careful. He shared that one person alone reported losing 12.1 million rupees.

SP Karki remarked that people who do not even lend money to their neighbors are sending millions to strangers online. He said that even smart people are falling into traps because of greed. He also mentioned that traffic jams are increasing in the Lakeside area and said that tourism businesses and police need to talk to find a solution.

At the program, Bishnu Bahadur Bhattarai, the Chairman of Ward No. 6, said the ward office is working to protect Fewa Lake. He said they are removing mud from the lake, but development is often delayed because some people file court cases.

Other speakers at the event said everyone must join hands to protect Fewa Lake. They said that people must stop filling the wetland areas near the lake with dirt. The meeting was chaired by Thakur Baral, where the annual and financial reports were also presented.
