Kathmandu – Students have shown a high level of interest in studying Computer Engineering at Nepal Engineering College (NEC), located in Changunarayan, Bhaktapur. Among the 96 seats available in the Computer Engineering program, all seats except the scholarship quota under Pokhara University have already been filled. Similarly, there is also significant interest in the Architecture program.
Associate Professor Rupesh Dahi Shrestha, Coordinator of the College Admission Committee, stated that all seats in Computer Engineering, except the university scholarship quota, have been filled. He added that most students who passed the entrance exam conducted by the college on Saun 31 have already enrolled, indicating that students are confident that they can receive international-level engineering education within Nepal.
“Almost all seats in Computer Engineering have been filled, and limited seats remain in Architecture. Enrollment has also increased in Civil, Civil & Rural, Information & Communication, and Electrical & Electronics compared to previous years,” he said.
Recently, the demand for IT and computer engineers has increased in Nepal’s business, industry, production, service, and information technology sectors. Consequently, the number of students seeking to study locally and build their careers has also grown.
Recognizing the growing domestic demand and opportunities for computer engineers, Pokhara University has revised its curriculum accordingly, encouraging more students to pursue their education in Nepal.
With the latest developments in information and technology, the Information & Communication Engineering program, which incorporates AI, Machine Learning, IoT, Data Systems, Programming, Networking, Electronic System Design, Telecommunication, Broadcasting, and Embedded Systems, has also attracted students’ attention. Students are increasingly interested in acquiring both technical expertise and practical skills.
“Information & Communication Engineering allows students to study the latest developments and skills in the IT sector. Pokhara University recently updated its courses, enabling students to receive education aligned with today’s needs right here in Nepal,” said Associate Professor Sachin Shrestha, Head of the Information & Communication Department at the college.
Because the Information & Communication Engineering program integrates both hardware and software, students can access broad opportunities in the information and communication sectors.
“This program consolidates the fundamental principles of Information & Communication Engineering, providing students knowledge in both hardware and software fields, preparing them for careers in the information and communication sector. The curriculum covers Electronic System Design, IT, Programming, Networking, Machine Learning, Internet of Things, and Data Systems,” said Department Head Shrestha.
Students studying Information & Communication can find opportunities in major established IT companies such as Nepal Telecom and Ncell. Additionally, they can pursue careers in Embedded Systems, Software Development, and Data-driven Innovation, gaining self-reliance. This program not only equips students technically but also prepares them to compete in the evolving digital environment.
Similarly, students are enrolling in Civil Engineering, Civil & Rural, Electrical & Electronics, and Civil programs for diploma holders. Located in a peaceful, green environment away from urban chaos, the college provides scholarships worth approximately NPR 15 CRORE each year, further increasing student enrollment in engineering programs.
Since its establishment, the college has focused on quality education, earning the trust of both students and parents, according to Principal Durgaprasad Bhandari.
“Our strongest point is quality education. We have full-time faculty dedicated to teaching for years, proper physical infrastructure, well-organized labs and libraries, and we involve students in national and international research. We provide practical and life-oriented education,” he said.
The college has also set affordable fees for students interested in engineering. Being a non-profit social educational institution, NEC’s strategy is to provide quality education at accessible fees.
