Nagdhunga Mothers' Group Enters 25th Year, Honoring Pioneers for Their Contributions
The Nagdhunga Mothers' Group in Pokhara has entered its 25th year of establishment. On this occasion, the group celebrated its Silver Jubilee by cutting a cake.
Former presidents of the group Pabitra Giri, Kamala Giri, and Kamala KC Bogati, along with Ward Member of Pokhara Metropolitan City Ward No. 9 Nandaram Giri, group advisor Durgaraj Giri, Chairperson of Nagdhunga Tol Development Committee Bishnu Prasad Subedi, and founder of Nagdhunga Mothers' Group Sunmaya Gurung, jointly cut the cake and exchanged greetings.
During the Silver Jubilee celebration, the organization recalled the ups and downs faced since its inception. The contributions of the late Ganeshman Palikhe, late Bhagwati Rajbhandari, and late Ima Giri toward the establishment of the organization were highlighted.
Similarly, the founding president of the group, Pabitra Giri, recalled the struggles during the founding period and remembered the contributions of social workers Gurudatta Lamichhane, Manumaya Lamichhane, and the late Khina Lamichhane, who worked hand-in-hand with them at the time.
Immediate past president Kamala KC and Laxmi Giri, among others, discussed the activities carried out during their respective tenures and expressed confidence that the Mothers' Group's journey would remain dynamic in the coming days under the current leadership.
Speaking as the chief guest of the program, people's representative and Ward 9 member Nandaram Giri expressed his gratitude to the Mothers' Group for successfully constructing a well-equipped building by properly conserving a piece of wasted, sloping land in Nagdhunga. He expressed his thankfulness to various supporters who helped the group reach its current position.
The current president of the organization, Kamala Shrestha, thanked Sunmaya Gurung for providing the inspiration to join the group and shed light on her long-term involvement and activities to date. She expressed her commitment to moving the organization forward in a united manner by collaborating with all group members and social workers in the neighborhood in the future.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee ceremony, the group also announced the establishment of an endowment fund. Social worker Shyam Bahadur Shrestha, who is also the former chairperson of the Airport Tol Development Committee, initiated the fund by contributing 10,000 rupees in cash. During the ceremony, founding president Pabitra Giri, founding member Sita Giri, and ward member Nandaram Giri also announced contributions of 5,000 rupees each to the endowment fund.
At the same event, Geeta Pageni, the instructor of a two-day incense-making training organized by Pokhara Metropolitan City Ward No. 9 and coordinated by the Nagdhunga Mothers' Group, was honored with thanks.
Nearly two dozen female members of the group participated in the training. The program was conducted by the group's secretary, Pushpa Giri, while Vice President Sima Lamichhane delivered the welcome speech.
